Pyongyang in Bloom
Another bizarre feature of the Kim dynasty personality cult are the flowers named after the 'Dear Leaders' of North Korea - Kim Il Sung, President for Eternity, who died in 1994, and his son, Kim Jong Il. The violet Kimilsungia and the red Kimjongilia are cross-bred from orchids and begonias. Follow the link to photos from the NK equivalent of the Chelsea Flower Show except that only two specimens are on display. The kitsch iconography made from polystyrene cut-outs, glitter and shiny paper has to be seen to be believed. Presumably the North Korean version of Blue Peter educates the people about the craft techniques.
Gardeners make the Great Leader proud.
The ultimate in flower displays.
